Test Includes

Special Instructions
Informed consent is required for New York patients. If abnormal, aPTT will reflex immediately to aPTT Mixing Studies [117199] at an additional charge.
Expected Turnaround Time
5 - 10 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen
Plasma, whole blood, and serum
Volume
Three tubes as follows: 2 mL citrated plasma, 5 mL whole blood, and 2 mL serum
Container
Plasma: blue-top (sodium citrate) tube; whole blood: lavender-top (EDTA) tube or yellow-top (ACD) tube; serum: red-top tube or gel-barrier tube
Collection
Serum and plasma must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture. Centrifuge plasma a second time before transferring to plastic transport tubes. Freeze within two hours and keep frozen until testing is performed. Send serum in a plastic transport tube. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Storage Instructions
Maintain whole blood at room temperature. Freeze serum and plasma.
