High‑dose biotin (vitamin B7) supplements—often used for hair, skin, and nails—can interfere with certain lab tests, leading to falsely high or low results. The FDA has reported serious clinical outcomes related to biotin interference.
Providers should routinely ask patients about biotin use and, when possible, recommend discontinuing supplements several days before testing. More information is available in the FDA’s official biotin interference safety communication.
Workplace drug testing is employer‑ordered and separate from clinical testing. Labcorp provides urine, oral fluid, hair, blood and rapid point‑of‑collection testing at select SAMHSA‑ and CAP‑certified locations.
Employees undergoing testing should bring:
- A chain of custody (COC) form, web COC number or employer testing request
- A valid photo ID

SmartTrends® provides visual trend displays to simplify interpretation.
In most cases, yes. Under the 21st Century Cures Act, nearly all finalized test results must be released to patients immediately and automatically through the EHR.
There are limited exceptions (such as risk of harm or patient privacy requests), which must be evaluated individually. Delaying results solely to allow provider review is not permitted under information‑blocking rules.
To support patient understanding and follow‑up care, consider:
- Setting patient expectations for when and how results will be shared
- Proactively discussing sensitive tests before ordering
- Using messaging templates or team‑based workflows to address patient questions

Clinical Trials and Research Support
Labcorp provides tools and scientific expertise to support trial matching by diagnosis, disease stage, and biomarker profile.
Providers can:
- Use Labcorp’s “Find a Trial” tool to search active studies by condition or diagnosis
- Leverage biomarker‑driven guidance to support precision‑medicine‑based trial matching and eligibility assessment
- Consult Labcorp’s biomarker‑driven clinical trial programs through the Biomarker Solution Center, which supports trials in oncology, cardiometabolic disease, neurology, and immunology
Labcorp experts can help determine which biomarkers matter most and which trials may align based on disease biology, mechanism of action, and regulatory considerations.
Participation in a clinical trial does not replace routine medical care. Instead, study‑related activities occur alongside your ongoing management.
In most cases:
- You continue to manage the patient’s overall health and non‑study care
- The research team oversees all protocol‑specific activities
- The study coordinator schedules trial visits and communicates relevant updates
- You are informed if any study‑related safety issue requires your involvement
Clear communication between the provider and research team helps ensure continuity of care and patient safety throughout the trial.
As a provider, your primary role is typically to:
- Identify potentially eligible patients
- Ensure clinical information—such as diagnosis, lab results, biomarkers, and medical history—is accurate and complete for screening
- Labcorp Clinical Trial Enablement Services support research teams by providing:
- Data‑driven eligibility analyses
- Inclusion and exclusion criteria assessments
- Patient‑location insights
Tasks such as confirming eligibility, coordinating outreach, managing consent, and guiding patients through enrollment are usually handled by the research team or study coordinator, supported by Labcorp’s analytics and recruitment tools.
Labcorp is a global partner across the entire clinical trial life cycle, helping bring new medications, vaccines, and treatments from research into clinical practice.
With nine central laboratories worldwide, Labcorp processes more than 3 million clinical trial specimens each week and generates more clinical trial data than any other central laboratory network.
Our end‑to‑end support includes:
- Laboratory testing across immunology, genomics, and safety testing
- Global specimen collection and logistics in more than 100 countries
- Consistent quality and regulatory‑aligned processes
Labcorp also supports patients and sponsors through:
- Accurate, reliable testing, including genetic testing and flow cytometry
- Patient‑centered study design informed by eligibility and clinical data
- Accessible study locations to improve participant convenience
- Inclusive outreach to help connect diverse and underrepresented populations to appropriate trials
- High standards for data quality, safety, and compliance
