Test Details

Use

Monitor exposure to antimony

Limitations

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Methodology

Inductively-coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP/MS)

Reference Interval

Environmental exposure: <10 μg/L

Occupational exposure: 35 μg/g creatinine1

Additional Information

Antimony poisoning through acute or chronic exposure is characterized by abdominal pain, dyspnea, nausea, vomiting, dermatitis, and eye irritation. Inhalation is the predominant route of occupational exposure.2 Antimony, employed industrially in pigments, abrasives, and for flameproofing fabrics, is primarily used in the form of inorganic salts. Various organic salts of antimony are available as parasiticides. The metallic form of antimony is used in many alloys.
