Labcorp receives “Democratize Cell Therapy” award from Be The Match

For over 25 years, Labcorp has been proud to collaborate with Be The Match® to add a greater, more diverse number of potential blood stem cell donors to their registry.

On September 28, Labcorp received the “Democratize Cell Therapy” award at the annual Be The Match Gala. “Be The Match is thrilled to recognize our partners at Labcorp with the Democratize Cell Therapy Award. This award is bestowed upon partners, like us, that have identified that the status quo is not good enough. And Labcorp identified just that.” Joy King – Be The Match Foundation Executive Director and Chief Advancement Officer.

Labcorp recognized a life-saving opportunity in its core business, which involves working with more than 2.5 million patient specimens each week. Determined to make a difference and envisioning what could be, Labcorp empowered its team to proactively recruit new potential donors into the Be The Match Registry during routine conversations with patients. This will be the second time that Labcorp has been recognized with a distinguished award of this level from Be The Match.

Bradley Norris, an account specialist at Labcorp joined the Be The Match Registry® after an on-campus event in 2012. One year later Bradley received a phone call from Be The Match saying he was a perfect match for a man in his 50s who needed a blood stem cell transplant. Without hesitation, Bradley agreed to help, began the donation process, and became an unsung hero.

Bradley may never meet the man who received his donation, yet he knows that his decision had an immeasurable impact. “I would encourage anyone to sign up and say ‘yes’ if asked to donate. There are really only minor inconveniences involved, and it’s a chance to potentially save someone’s life.”
