Dr. Ruth Koester is a fellow of the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI), and she is a member of American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) and the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA). She earned a BS from Cornell University and a PhD in Genetics from North Carolina State University. She holds a certificate of qualification from the New York State Department of Health to act as a laboratory director in the categories of genetic testing, histocompatibility, transplant monitoring and parentage/identity testing. Dr. Koester has served as chair of the Publications Committee and the Awards Task Force for ASHI. During her tenure with Labcorp, Dr. Koester has utilized multiple technologies to perform HLA testing including serology, SSP, SSO, Sanger SBT and various platforms of Next Generation Sequencing. She provides clinical histocompatibility support for stem cell transplant centers and registries. Her responsibilities include regulatory oversight of the DNA Identification and Consumer Genetics Laboratories.
