Methodology
Short-term cell culture; chromosome harvest; G-banding; analysis (20 metaphases) and karyotyping
Result Turnaround Time
7 - 10 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Use
Identify specific chromosomal abnormalities associated with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
Special Instructions
Indicate tentative diagnosis on the test request form. This is necessary for proper culturing and result interpretation.
Please do not submit hypocellular fine-needle aspirates (FNAs) for chromosomal analysis. Target FISH analysis is recommended for hypocellular FNAs. Please direct any questions regarding this test to oncology customer service at 800-345-4363.
Limitations
FNAs are frequently unsuccessful. Please see Special Instructions. Normal lymph nodes are often nonmitotic, providing no results.

Lymph node in Lymph Node Transport bottle.
Collection Instructions
Submit lymph node at room temperature using Lymph Node Transport Kit (supplied by Roche). Specimens should arrive in the laboratory within 48 hours of collection. Indicate date and time of collection on the test request form.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature.
Patient Preparation
Patient should not be on chemotherapy.
