Enzymatic digestion of tissue; in situ culturing and harvesting with G-banding
Result Turnaround Time
10 - 14 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Test Includes
Enzyme digestion of tissue; primary culturing; chromosome harvesting; banding; analysis (20 metaphases); and karyotyping
Use
Detection of chromosomal abnormalities with subgroup-specific diagnostic and prognostic significance (eg, t(11;22) in Ewing sarcoma)
Special Instructions
Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH), Oncology [510669] of a formalin-fixed, paraffin block is the test of choice for FNAs/core biopsies. Indicate tumor type on the test request form. Please direct any questions regarding this test to oncology customer service at 800-345-4363.

Lymph node transport bottle or sterile tube containing Ringer's lactate
Collection Instructions
Submit at room temperature using Lymph Node Transport Kit (supplied by LabCorp). Specimens should arrive in the laboratory within 48 hours of collection. Indicate date and time of collection on the request form.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature (refrigerate if sterility is questionable).
Causes for Rejection
Gross contamination; frozen specimen; fixed specimen
