Use

Alterations of the p53 tumor suppressor gene have been shown to serve as an independent prognostic marker in a wide variety of tumor types such as colorectal,1,2 breast,3,4 prostate,5 and bladder.6

Limitations

This procedure may be considered by Medicare and other carriers as investigational and, therefore, may not be payable as a covered benefit for patients.

Collection

Specimen should be fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin. Optimum fixation time is 12 to 24 hours, not to exceed 48 hours.

Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature.
