2 mL blood and 5 mL urine

0.6 mL blood and 2.4 mL urine

Royal blue-top (EDTA) tube and plastic urine container


Collection

As β2-microglobulin can degrade under acidic conditions in the bladder, workers should empty their bladder and then drink a large glass of water at the start of the visit. Urine should then be collected within one hour. The pH of the urine should be measured and adjusted to 6-8, if necessary, using 0.1 N NaOH.


Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Refrigerated storage is recommended if the specimen is not submitted to the laboratory for testing within two days of collection.
