Mahul B. Amin, MD

Vice President and Divisional Medical Director, West Division; Discipline Director, Anatomic Pathology, Labcorp

Dr. Amin is board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology and serves as vice president and medical director of Labcorp’s West Division. At an enterprise level at Labcorp, he is the discipline director for anatomic pathology and provides senior medical leadership perspective to Labcorp’s oncology, digital pathology and artificial intelligence programs. He also is a clinical professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and adjunct clinical professor of urology at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine.

Dr. Amin’s scientific interests include the discovery and validation of biomarkers in urologic malignancies for clinical personalized medicine and in artificial intelligence applications in pathology. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications, books and book chapters and has spoken, lectured and presented extensively around the world.

Dr. Amin is a world-renowned expert and educator in genitourinary pathology, having co-authored the 2002 World Health Organization (WHO) classification systems for urothelial tumors and renal neoplasms, and the 2016 WHO classification systems for tumors of the prostate, bladder, kidney, penis and testis. He is on the editorial panel for the 2022 WHO Classification of Tumours: Urinary and Male Genital Tumours (WHO Blue Book) volume. Dr. Amin is the editor-in-chief of the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging manual, where he coordinated the activities of more than 425 contributors to define cancer staging for patients worldwide.
