Media Statement: LabCorp Has Performed Approximately 350,000 Tests; Expands Lab Testing Capacity to More Than 30,000 Tests Per Day

LabCorp is continuously working on increasing the number of tests we can perform and improving the time for delivering test results. To accomplish both, we have been doing everything we can to increase capacity as quickly as possible. LabCorp has performed approximately 350,000 tests since first making our COVID-19 test available on March 5th. That number is increasing rapidly now that our lab capacity has reached more than 30,000 tests per day, with even more capacity expected over the coming weeks assuming adequate supplies. LabCorp currently has approximately 80,000 tests (equivalent to about 2.5 days of our capacity) pending results in our laboratories, and we expect that figure to be lower by the end of this weekend. Typically, we have been able to deliver test results back to patients between 4-5 days from the date of specimen pickup.

We understand how disconcerting it is to not receive test results in a reasonable time frame and unfortunately, due to the unprecedented demand we had when we started testing, this has been the experience for some people. We are doing everything we can to improve these timeframes. We know there is more that needs to be done and we’re committed to doing our part during this emergency health crisis.
