| Number | | 140612 |
| CPT | | 87522 |
| Synonyms | | HCV SuperQuant™ ; NGI SuperQuant™ ; SuperQuant™ HCV |
| Test Includes | | Detection and quantitation of hepatitis C virus RNA (HCV RNA) |
| Special Instructions | | Submit a separate request form and frozen specimen for each frozen test ordered. |
| Specimen | | Serum or plasma, frozen |
| Minimum Volume | | 1 mL |
| Container | | Plasma preparation tube (PPT™) or screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport tube |
| Collection | | Collect blood in gel-barrier tube, yellow-top (ACD) tube, lavender-top (EDTA) tube, or plasma preparation tube (PPT™). Centrifuge blood at 800-1600xg at room temperature within 6 hours of draw to separate serum/plasma from cells. Transfer serum/plasma to a plastic screw-cap transport tube (not “pop top” or “snap cap”) and freeze. Specimens drawn into PPT™ need to be centrifuged in a swinging bucket centrifuge within 6 hours and frozen. Ship frozen. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested. |
| Storage Instructions | | Freeze |
| Causes for Rejection | | Hemolysis; heparinized specimen; specimen not frozen; PPT™ not centrifuged; specimen received in “pop-top” or “snap-cap” tube |
| Use | | Quantitative measurement of hepatitis C virus in serum or plasma |
| Limitations | | Assay range: 100-5,000,000 copies/mL (39-2,000,000 IU/mL) |
| Methodology | | SuperQuant™ PCR amplification and DNA probe detection |
