Before You Go
Yes. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), your ADA-recognized service dog or miniature horse is welcome to stay with you throughout your entire appointment.
Here's what to expect:
- Your service animal can accompany you in all patient areas
- Our staff may only ask (1) if your animal is required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task the animal has been trained to perform
- Please always keep your service animal under control, typically through a leash (unless the leash interferes with the animal's work)
- We expect well-behaved animals; disruptive behavior cannot be accommodated
- You are responsible for your animal's cleanliness and waste
These protections help ensure you receive respectful, empowering care while maintaining a safe environment for all patients.
Some tests require you to avoid eating or drinking anything (except water, plain tea or black coffee) for a certain period before the test, while others have no dietary restrictions. To determine if you can eat before your test, it's best to follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider. If you’re not sure, contact your provider.

Not necessarily. Most tests do require an order from a healthcare provider. Your doctor can send this order to us electronically, or you might receive a paper copy. If your doctor has already sent it electronically, you typically won't need to bring a paper copy. However, if you do have a printed order, it's always a good idea to bring it along just in case.
Labcorp OnDemand allows you to conveniently purchase select tests yourself—like wellness panels, hormone checks, or STI screenings—without a doctor's order. After you complete your OnDemand order, you'll receive a confirmation email with a requisition number. If your test requires a visit to a Labcorp location, simply bring this number with you.
In short:
- Doctor-ordered tests: Electronic or paper orders are both welcome
- Labcorp OnDemand tests: You order these yourself online, and just bring your Requisition number to your appointment
Yes, you can schedule appointments for your family members or dependents. Simply enter their information when scheduling the appointment and we'll take care of the rest.
Yes, you can use a test request form from another laboratory. Be sure to bring the form with you to your appointment so we can verify the order with your provider.

You can book a new appointment as soon as we resume normal operations or find an alternate testing location through the MyLabcorp™ mobile app or online using the Labcorp Patient™ portal.
Getting Results
We recommend discussing your test results with the provider who ordered the test or a member of their office staff. They're best equipped to provide context and answer any questions.
While we can't provide personalized interpretations of your results, our PSC staff are happy to help with any general questions you may have about the testing process.
If you've been authorized to view lab test results for others in your account, you can access their results by following these steps:
- Sign in to your account online using the Labcorp Patient™ portal
- Click Results in the main menu
- In the drop-down menu, select the person whose results you'd like to view
- Click View for the results you'd like to view
In order to set up access rights, do the following:
- Log in online using the Labcorp Patient portal (or create an account if you don’t have one)
- Navigate to “Manage Access” or “Linked Accounts”
- Submit a request to link the other person’s account
- For minors, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent and may need to verify identity
- Once approved, you’ll be able to view results, pay bills, and manage appointments for that individual
For legal guardianship or special circumstances, Labcorp may require additional documentation (such as a notarized consent form). You can start this process at Labcorp Patient or contact our Clinical Contact Center team online with the Labcorp Patient Inquiry Form.
Many standard lab test results are available within 24-48 hours. However, the turnaround time may vary depending on the complexity of the tests. Some results may take up to two weeks, and specialized tests like genetic or esoteric tests may take up to 21 days.
To check the status of your results, simply log in to your MyLabcorp™ mobile app or online using the Labcorp Patient™ portal. Results are delivered to your Labcorp Patient account at the same time they are reported to your healthcare provider (unless state or federal laws restrict timing of delivery). Note that some results, such as employee drug screening, are not available in Labcorp Patient. If you have questions about the availability of your results, please contact your provider's office directly.
Delays in receiving lab results are most commonly due to outdated or inaccurate personal information on file with your healthcare provider or in your Labcorp Patient™ account. If it's been more than two weeks since your sample was collected and your results aren't available, here are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue:
- Check your Labcorp Patient account: Log in to your MyLabcorp™ mobile app or Labcorp Patient portal online and ensure your personal information is up to date, complete, and accurate
- Verify information with your healthcare provider: Reach out to your ordering provider to confirm that your personal details on file match those in your Labcorp Patient profile
- Keep your information current: As a best practice, consider annually verifying that all your healthcare providers have your most current contact and insurance information
If you've taken these steps and still don’t see your results, contact our Clinical Contact Center team online using the Labcorp Patient Inquiry Form.
As soon as your results are available, they'll be available to view in your Labcorp Patient™ account via your MyLabcorp™ mobile app or online portal. If you don't have a Labcorp Patient account yet, visit our registration page to get started.
Lab results can be difficult to interpret, especially if you’re not sure what the numbers mean or how they relate to your overall health.

MyLabcorp uses the same secure login as the Labcorp Patient™ portal. If you already have a Labcorp Patient account, you can use this login to sign in to the MyLabcorp mobile app and access your information from your mobile device.
Sample Collection and Testing
If you’re bringing a minor for testing, please be aware that they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the entire visit, including sample collection. If someone else will accompany the child, Labcorp may require written authorization from the parent or guardian.
Please note:
- Some locations only perform pediatric draws for children under a certain age (often 12 and younger), so it’s best to check ahead
- In rare cases, emancipated minors or those seeking certain confidential services (like STI testing) may consent on their own, depending on state laws
Most test orders are valid for one year from the time your provider writes the order. However, standing orders (intended for repeated use within a set duration and frequency) are valid for a maximum of six months. If you're unsure of when your test order was written or which type of order you have, contact your provider.
During your visit, our trained staff will assist you in providing a small sample based on the test type; this might include blood, urine, saliva, hair, or other types of samples. Our staff will guide you through the process, making sure it's as safe, quick, and comfortable as possible while safeguarding your dignity and privacy. For more details, visit our What to Expect page.
Please be aware that children must be supervised at all times while at our locations and cannot enter the collection area. We appreciate you planning accordingly.

Clinical Trials
Clinical trials follow standards and are highly regulated to protect participants. Every trial is closely monitored by an independent Ethics Committee (EC) or Institutional Review Board (IRB) to safeguard the rights and welfare of participants. Nevertheless, clinical trials cannot be risk-free. Although safety precautions are in place to protect people who participate in clinical trials, your condition or health could remain the same, improve or get worse.
If you’d like to learn more about clinical trials or explore trials you might want to participate in, visit our Clinical Trials page for more information.
Usually, you do not need a doctor’s approval to enroll. Most clinical trials allow people to contact the study team directly and go through their screening without needing permission from a primary care doctor. Clinical trial teams are set up to help you understand eligibility, answer questions, and guide you through each next step.
While approval isn’t required, it’s still a good idea to discuss with your doctor. They can:
- Offer perspective on whether the trial fits your unique medical history
- Check for medication or treatment interactions
- Help share relevant medical records
- Coordinate ongoing care if the study requires monitoring
If you’d like to learn more about clinical trials or explore trials you might want to participate in, visit our Clinical Trials page for more information.
Clinical trials help determine if medications, vaccines, medical devices, and medical procedures are safe and effective for treating or preventing diseases and health conditions. These studies rely on volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and health histories who choose to take part in advancing medical knowledge and helping shape future treatment options. Clinical trials are essential because without them, new treatments cannot be developed or approved for wider use.
Participating in a clinical trial can:
- Give you access to potential new treatment options
- Allow you to contribute to innovations that may help others
- Connect you with dedicated clinical teams who closely monitor your health and well-being throughout the process
If you’d like to learn more about clinical trials or explore trials you might want to participate in, visit our Clinical Trials page for more information.
Labcorp is a global partner across the entire clinical trial life cycle, helping bring new medications, vaccines, and treatments from research into clinical practice.
- With nine central laboratories worldwide, Labcorp processes more than 3 million clinical trial specimens each week and generates more clinical trial data than any other central laboratory network. Our end-to-end support includes:
- Laboratory testing across immunology, genomics, and safety testing
- Global specimen collection and logistics in more than 100 countries
- Consistent quality and regulatory‑aligned processes
Labcorp also supports patients and sponsors through:
- Accurate, reliable testing, including genetic testing and flow cytometry
- Patient‑centered study design informed by eligibility and clinical data
- Accessible study locations to improve participant convenience
- Inclusive outreach to help connect diverse and underrepresented populations to appropriate trials
- High standards for data quality, safety, and compliance
If you’d like to learn more about clinical trials or explore trials you might want to participate in, visit our Clinical Trials page for more information.
Anyone may be eligible to participate, including people of all ages, races, ethnicities, and health histories.
Every clinical trial has its own inclusion and exclusion criteria. These guidelines help researchers make sure the study is safe for participants and collects the right type of data. Volunteers are typically screened with questions or tests to determine whether they qualify for a given study.
If you’d like to learn more about clinical trials or explore trials you might want to participate in, visit our Clinical Trials page for more information.
