Key unmet needs in clinical practice
Why comprehensive hepatitis testing matters
Significant gaps remain in hepatitis diagnosis and care. Even when screening occurs, many patients fall out of care after positive antibody results due to the absence of reflex RNA testing pathways¹³. Hepatitis D testing also remains underutilized, despite its association with severe disease and the emergence of new therapies¹⁰⁻¹².
At the same time, primary care providers frequently report low confidence interpreting complex hepatitis serologies, which can further complicate patient management¹⁴. Fragmented testing approaches often lead to delayed treatment initiation and lost follow-up¹³, and disparities in diagnosis and care continue to affect immigrant, rural, and underserved populations¹⁵. Many health systems also lack automated reflex testing pathways that could simplify diagnosis and improve linkage to care¹³.
