Methodology

Cystine capacity, calcium, creatinine, citrate, urea nitrogen, phosphorus: Colormetric

Sulfate: Turbidity with barium precipitation

Sodium: Ion specific electrode

pH: Potentiometry

Result Turnaround Time

4 - 8 days

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Use

This test is used for people with known cystinuria, cystine stone formers or patients who had a reported "positive" screen from the standard Litholink test, Litholink 24-Hour Urine, KS [910235].

Special Instructions

Ordering this test will trigger the Litholink At-Home testing kit to be sent directly your patient. This testing requires the use of Litholink's At-Home testing cystine kit and preservatives.

Please state the 24-hour urine volume.

Limitations

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Specimen Requirements

22-26 hour urine collection

Volume

Two 40 mL aliquots of 24-hour urine are required per collection: one before the addition of sodium carbonate (green-top tube) and one after the addition of sodium carbonate (orange-top tube)

Minimum Volume

Two 40 mL of 24-hour urine per collection

Collection Instructions

Included preservative functions as a volume marker must be added to the main collection container at the beginning of collection and then return a 40 mL aliquot of the 24-hour urine per collection.

Full 24-hour collection: Void and discard first urine and continue to collect for 24-hour period from that void time.

All samples must be immediately returned to the lab using the prepaid FedEx shipper.

Causes for Rejection

Too old (>96 hours); under or over collected (<22 hours or >26 hours); incorrect use of the Litholink preservative or the Litholink preservative not detected
