Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Use
This test is intended as an aid in the determination of immune status to rubella in individuals, including those that are pregnant. The cutoff value for this assay has been set at 10 IU/mL in accordance with guidelines that recommend 10 IU/mL as an indicator of immune status.
Custom Additional Information
Rubella virus is the cause of German measles, usually a mild exanthem, often subclinical; however, when acquired in utero, rubella virus can cause congenital rubella syndrome and lead to fetal demise, malformation, deafness and intellectual disability.
This assay can serve as an assessment of immune status in women of child bearing age to support decisions around vaccination and prophylaxis. Detection of IgG following acute infection can aid in the diagnosis of rubella.

Storage Instructions
Refrigerate. Specimen is stable for two days at room temperature and for seven days refrigerated. For storage longer than seven days, freeze the specimen.

Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic and icteric samples; samples with visible particulate matter or gross bacterial contamination
