Quantitation of immunoglobulins IgA, IgG, and IgM; IFE interpretation of monoclonal heavy- (IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, IgE) and light-chain (kappa, Lambda) patterns, if present in the serum
State patient's age and clinical diagnosis on the test request form.
3 - 5 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

1 mL (Note: This volume does not allow for repeat testing.)
Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube
Separate serum from red cells.
Overnight fasting is preferred, but not required.
Detect and identify monoclonal immunoglobulin gammopathies
Electrophoresis followed by immunodiffusion against monospecific antisera to immunoglobulin and individual heavy and light chains (IFE); turbidimetric quantitation of IgA, IgG, and IgM
Immunofixation electrophoresis of serum or urine is most often ordered to evaluate a monoclonal globulin detected in a protein electrophoresis or to delineate a possible lymphoproliferative process, particularly myeloma. This procedure will characterize the specific light and heavy chain components of a monoclonal protein.
