The metabolic vulnerability index predicts outcomes in patients with metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease

23 Jun 2026

Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a growing cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality1,2. It is estimated that about 20–25% of adults have MASLD, previously called nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but only a minority experience liver-related adverse health outcomes3. Identification of those most at risk of significant clinical outcomes is a cornerstone of current paradigms for evaluation and management of MASLD3.
