Greg Sommer is a Senior Director of R&D and serves as Labcorp's Scientific Discipline Director for Alternative Sample Collection, where he oversees new methods and technologies aimed at improving clinical diagnostic test access and patient experience.
Dr. Sommer was previously a Co-Founder, CEO, and CSO at Sandstone Diagnostics, Inc., which was acquired by Labcorp in 2021. Dr. Sommer was recognized as a 2015 Bay Area "40 Under 40" by Diablo Magazine. Prior to Sandstone, Dr. Sommer was a Senior Research Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories where he led several point-of-care diagnostic R&D efforts. He was inducted into Sandia's Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame in 2019.
Dr. Sommer is a co-inventor on 30+ peer-reviewed publications and 25+ patents in microfluidic and clinical diagnostic technologies.
A North Dakota native, Dr. Sommer received his PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University.
