Dr. Gerald Capraro is the Technical Director of Routine Microbiology in the Atlantic Division Regional Laboratory, Esoteric Microbiology in the Center for Esoteric Testing, and ViroMed Laboratory at LabCorp in Burlington, NC. He is also a Discipline Director in Donor Testing. Dr. Capraro is certified by the New York State Department of Health as a Director of Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Virology, Parasitology, and Diagnostic Immunology. He earned his PhD from Wake Forest University in Microbiology and Immunology and completed Postdoctoral Fellowship training in Clinical and Public Health Microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, NE. 

He is Board Certified in Medical and Public Health Microbiology by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. His research interests include molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and microbial virulence, and the development of molecular diagnostic assays for infectious diseases. Dr. Capraro is active in the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Pan-American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV), the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), and the Southwestern Association of Clinical Microbiology (SWACM).
