Validation of specialized lipids panel for serum analysis using Roche Cobas 8000 c702 platform

26 Jul 2026

ADLM 2026 -- High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) are key cardiovascular biomarkers, but traditional estimation formulas lose accuracy in high-triglyceride and non-fasting states, and direct homogenous assays remain vulnerable to matrix interferences. Although ultracentrifugation is considered the reference method for LDL-C measurement, its technical complexity and labor-intensive workflow make it impractical for routine clinical use. These limitations are particularly consequential in clinical trials, where precise lipid quantification is critical for evaluating therapeutic efficacy. To address these challenges, Labcorp developed a specialized lipids panel laboratory-developed test (LDT) on the Roche Cobas 8000 c702 that integrates precipitation-based HDL-C with ultracentrifugation-derived LDL-C, providing a higher accuracy alternative to conventional lipid measurements.
