Test Details

Use

Aid in the diagnosis of acute EBV (infectious mononucleosis) and EBV reactivation in conjunction with other serologic tests. The appearance of IgG antibodies to Early antigen-diffuse [EA(D)] is generally associated with the primary (acute) stage of EBV infection. For most individuals these antibodies are transient and are often undetectable after 6 months.

Limitations

The results for this test are not by themselves diagnostic and should be considered in association with other clinical data and patient symptoms.

This test is intended for qualitative determination only. The numeric value of the final result above the cutoff is not indicative of the amount of EBV-EA antibody.

Methodology

Chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA)

Reference Interval

• Negative: <9.0 U/mL

• Equivocal: 9.0−10.9 U/mL

• Positive: >10.9 U/mL

Additional Information
