Synonyms

  • HIV-1 Plasma Viremia
  • HIV-1 RNA by Real-time PCR, Quantitative
  • Reflex to PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase
  • Viral Load

Special Instructions

A separate frozen specimen is required for the PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase portion of the test. A frozen sample is preferred for the viral load assay, but it is also stable at room temperature for one day or refrigerated for five days. Freeze specimen for long-term storage.

Expected Turnaround Time

24 days

    Specimen Requirements

    Specimen

    Plasma, frozen

    Volume

    6 mL

    Minimum Volume

4 mL (Note: This volume does not allow for repeat testing.)

    Container

Ship in two or more screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport tubes.

    Collection

Collect specimen in three lavender-top (EDTA) tubes or three PPT™ tubes. Do not use green-top (heparin) tubes. Centrifuge specimen within six hours of collection. Remove plasma, transfer plasma to screw-cap polypropylene transport tubes (not "pop-top" or "snap-cap"), and freeze. Ship frozen (preferred). Do not ship frozen in PPT™. If PPT™ is used to collect plasma, specimen must be transferred to a screw-cap tube prior to freezing to avoid false elevation of low viral load samples. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.

    Storage Instructions

Freeze. Separate frozen sample required for PhenoSense GT® portion of the test. A frozen sample is preferred for the viral load assay, but it is also stable at room temperature for one day or refrigerated for five days. Freeze for long-term storage.

    Causes for Rejection

Hemolysis; green-top (heparin) tube; specimen received in "pop-top" or "snap-cap" tube; quantity not sufficient for analysis; frozen PPT™

    Use

Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma with reflex to PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase (at additional charge) if viral load is >500 copies/mL.

    Limitations

    Assay range: 20−10,000,000 copies/mL
