Specimen Requirements


Specimen

Whole blood or buccal swabs


Volume

7 mL whole blood or four buccal swabs


Minimum Volume

3 mL whole blood or four buccal swabs


Container

Lavender-top (EDTA) tube or four buccal swabs in a sealed envelope (buccal swab kit). When submitting buccal swabs, please use a buccal swab kit provided by LabCorp. To obtain the buccal swab kit, please telephone 800-533-1037.


Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature; protect from extreme heat or cold. Do not freeze.


Causes for Rejection

Hemolyzed specimen; clotted specimen; wrong specimen container


Test Details


Use

HLA B antigens may be correlated with certain disease states or other clinical conditions. Indicate in clinical information which antigen(s) is of interest. Also used for screening of transplant candidates and potential donors, transfusion of specifically compatible blood products, among others.


Limitations

This test was developed, and its performance characteristics determined, by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).


Methodology

Sequence-based typing (SBT), sequence-specific oligonucleotide probes (SSOP), and/or sequence-specific primers (SSP) as needed to obtain the required resolution.
