Test Details


To detect or confirm hepatitis C virus infection; reflex test will determine the quantity of hepatitis C virus (IU/mL) in HCV-positive specimens.

Specimen Requirements


Plasma or serum, frozen


4 mL

Minimum Volume

2 mL


Plasma preparation tube (PPT™) or screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport tube


Collect specimen in gel-barrier tube, PPT™, or lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Centrifuge specimen within 24 hours of collection. Transfer serum or plasma to a polypropylene screw-cap tube and freeze. Snap-cap or Pop-top tubes should be avoided and may result in specimen rejection. Ship frozen. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
