Specimen Requirements


Whole blood or bone marrow or pellets cell suspended in cell culture medium or buffered solution or isolated DNA from peripheral blood, bone marrow, or cell pellets (without fixative)


5 mL whole blood or 3 mL bone marrow

Minimum Volume

1 mL whole blood, 1 mL bone marrow, or 0.30 mL isolated DNA


Lavender-top (EDTA) tube, yellow-top (ACD) tube, or green-top (heparin) tube.

Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature.

Causes for Rejection

Cell pellets suspended in fixatives (examples of fixative such as acetone, acetic acid, etc); DNA extracted from FFPE (formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded) tissue and bone core; any separating blood collection tubes, red-top tubes, serum or plasma and tissue; specimen more than 14 days old (unless classified as irretrievable, in which case permission from the LabPMM medical director is required to proceed with testing)
