Test Details

Use

Androsterone is a major metabolite of testosterone and androstenedione along with the enantiomer etiocholanolone. Androsterone is also part of the "backdoor pathway" from allopregnanolone to dihydrotestosterone, which has importance in certain disease states. Androsterone is one of a few steroids with neutral activity that interact with γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors.

Limitations

Results of this test are for investigational purposes only. The performance characteristics of this assay have been determined by LabCorp. The result should not be used as a diagnostic procedure without confirmation of the diagnosis by another medically established diagnostic product or procedure.

Methodology

High-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC)/tandem mass spectrometry (MS-MS)
