LabCorp’s Ambulatory Monitoring Services (AMS) has provided expert ambulatory cardiovascular testing to physicians, hospitals, and pharmaceutical firms for more than 20 years.
Through a comprehensive cardiovascular service package, physicians can improve patient care while controlling expenses and reducing routine referrals. The dedicated AMS staff, located in Burlington, NC, is available to assist physicians and patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Holter monitoring is a basic, noninvasive tool used to evaluate and manage cardiac symptoms. The monitor continuously records the patient’s cardiac rhythm for 24 to 48 hours. The data is then sent to the AMS office, usually via express courier, where it is analyzed. A report is typically returned to the ordering physician within 24 to 48 hours following AMS receiving patient data.
This procedure is effective in helping physicians decide whether to start a patient on antihypertensive therapy. While on the patient, the monitor takes blood pressure readings once every 20 minutes during daytime hours and once an hour after 11:00 PM. Data is typically sent to the AMS office via modem. Once received, the results are sent to the ordering physician within 15 minutes.
This tool is used to evaluate transient cardiac-related symptoms. The unit continuously monitors the patient’s heartbeat with looping memory. In the event of a symptom, the patient presses a button to record an electrocardiogram (ECG) while the symptom is occurring. Once the recording is complete, the patient calls the AMS receiving center to transmit the recording over the phone.
AMS provides ECG machines to select clients and institutions in situations where equipment is otherwise unavailable. The ECG is taken at bedside at the physician’s office. The machine simultaneously acquires 10 seconds of ECG data in each of the 12 leads. The data is stored in the machine until it is transmitted via standard telephone lines to the AMS receiving center for analysis. Once analyzed, the interpreted ECG is returned to the ordering physician.
The physician calls AMS to order the monitor. The monitor is shipped via express courier to the physician’s office for hook-up. Once the patient returns with the monitor, the monitor is shipped back to AMS (pre-paid shipping provided).
Equipment is provided for the physician to retain in his or her office. The number of units will be determined by the estimated monthly volume.
AMS can bill the client, the patient, Medicare, and most insurance companies. Please contact AMS for more information about special pricing and reimbursement.
Account setup and pricing are performed by AMS personnel. Clients must sign a use agreement before equipment is placed. Once the use agreement has been signed, an account will be set up, and then AMS will ship the equipment and schedule training for the physician’s staff.
