Medical Professional Profiles
The drugs of abuse for medical professionals are often opiates, other narcotics, and benzodiazepines. This is in contrast to the general population’s more common abuse of marijuana and cocaine. LabCorp's medical professional profiles are designed to detect abusing health care providers who have access to an array of controlled substances. The medical professional profiles program provides flexible, cost-effective testing for the following:
- Universal monitoring
- Random testing
- Post-rehabilitation compliance
LabCorp has one of the most extensive substance abuse testing networks in the US. The medical professional profiles consist of a variety of drugs that are commonly abused and readily available in the medical community but not traditionally tested for by employers. LabCorp detects these drugs using:
- Immunoassay, ELISA, and thin-layer chromatography for most of the initial testing
- Mass spectrometry confirmation of drug metabolites
Forensic Identity Testing
Sometimes questions have been raised about whether a specimen was actually supplied by the individual identified as the donor. These questions can be addressed through DNA testing at LabCorp’s unique forensic identity testing laboratory. The lab offers dual accreditation from the American Society of Crime Lab Directors and the College of American Pathologists as well as laboratory personnel who have analyzed thousands of cases and provided expert witness testimony in hundreds of forensic cases.
Specimen Validity Testing
We provide specimen validity testing (SVT) to assist in the detection of sample adulteration. SVT includes pH and creatinine (reflexing to specific gravity, if low).
Wide Selection of Drugs
Medical professional profiles allow the substance abuse program administrator to evaluate a large number of drugs with a high degree of reliability. Profiles have been developed to incorporate several subcategories of drugs, especially for opiates, other narcotics, and benzodiazepines.
- Creatinine (reflex to specific gravity if low) and pH
- Alprazolam metabolite
- Flurazepam metabolite
- Triazolam metabolite
- Cocaine metabolite
- Meperidine and metabolite
- Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)
