We are proud to be part of The Fight Is In Us coalition to increase donations of blood plasma with COVID-19 antibodies. Blood plasma is being evaluated as a possible treatment for patients with an active COVID-19 infection. Public health authorities have asked for help with expanding the population of potential plasma donors, and LabCorp is seeking to meet that challenge by creating a program to offer high-affinity antibody testing at no charge* through your doctor. Patients who are interested in donating blood plasma can speak with their doctor about the high-affinity antibody testing program during their next visit or treatment. Learn more about COVID-19 blood plasma donation at https://thefightisinus.org/.
*Please note: the no-charge high-affinity antibody testing program does not apply to LabCorp's COVID-19 IgG Antibody Test that is available through LabCorp.com.
Your test results may help identify if you were exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 and, if so, whether or not your body has developed antibodies. Although having antibodies usually gives immunity from further infection, there is not enough evidence at this time to suggest that people who have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, are protected against future infections from the virus. Results from this test also will not provide information on whether you can spread the virus to others and is not used as a basis for diagnosis.
A variety of factors can impact the results from the antibody test, including the time the test was taken after experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, the absence of or time since exposure to the virus, or the lack of an adequate immune response, which can be due to conditions or treatments that suppress immune function.
Additionally, serology (antibody) tests may detect IgG antibodies from previous exposure to coronaviruses other than SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). This can cause a false positive result.
Your results will be provided to you through our secure online portal to view or print. Your results will be reported to public health authorities where required by law.
If you requested the LabCorp COVID-19 IgG antibody test through LabCorp and PWNHealth, please see information below from PWNHealth about test results.
This test can be ordered through your doctor, either in-person or via telehealth; through a telemedicine program if offered by your health plan or employer or through some employee wellness plans. The test can also be conveniently requested through LabCorp.com using an independent physician service, PWNHealth, to determine if the test is right for you.
Once the test order is placed, your antibody blood test is collected at nearly 2,000 convenient LabCorp patient service centers, including LabCorp at Walgreens.
When you arrive at the LabCorp patient service center, a phlebotomist will take a blood sample. You do not need to do anything to prepare for the test.
There are no upfront costs for the antibody test. You can get the test through (1) your doctor, (2) your healthcare provider, or (3) LabCorp.com. LabCorp.com offers a convenient option in which an independent physician will order your test and with whom you will have an opportunity to consult about your result.* The fee for this service is $10 and is collected on behalf of PWNHealth for physician oversight services. This fee is not submitted to insurance for reimbursement by LabCorp or PWNHealth and is not refundable. If the test is ordered through your doctor or healthcare provider, the $10 PWNHealth fee does not apply. Check with your doctor or healthcare provider for more information about being tested.
LabCorp will bill the cost of the COVID-19 antibody test directly to your health plan if you are insured, or if you are uninsured, LabCorp will bill the appropriate government program. The cost of the test is $42.13 and is based on rates established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In the event that your health plan, or applicable government program does not cover the cost of the test, you may receive an invoice from LabCorp for up to $42.13.
*A physician’s order from PWNHealth is placed after the individual completes a short health questionnaire to determine if the COVID-19 IgG antibody test is appropriate. An independent physician will determine whether to authorize your test request, if appropriate. After you receive your results, you will have an opportunity to have a consultation with an independent licensed physician or other licensed healthcare provider from PWNHealth, who can answer any questions you may have about your test results and help determine next steps. Results can also be accessed through the individual’s LabCorp Patient account.
