Patient Activated Event Monitoring
The Need
Cardiac symptoms are frequently transient, occurring every few weeks or months. Many times, attempts to document these intermittent cardiac events with 12-lead ECG or Holter monitoring are futile.
LabCorp's AMS provides physicians with patient-activated event monitoring (PAEM). This noninvasive cardiac test helps physicians diagnose and evaluate transient symptoms that may be cardiac in origin, such as syncope, palpitations, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, and dizziness that may not be captured for analysis by traditional 24-hour Holter monitoring. Event monitoring may also be warranted when extended periods of analysis are required.
The Procedure and Analysis
When the patient experiences a symptom, he or she activates the monitor, and the PAEM device records the ECG activity during the event. Collected data is easily transmitted via standard phone lines to LabCorp's receiving stations for immediate processing and analysis.
LabCorp provides around-the-clock coverage: data can be received 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, physicians can determine their own criteria for emergency notification.
The Report
Results are available for immediate transmission to physicians upon receipt of data. Results can be sent via facsimile, telephone, or electronic data transfer. Original reports are returned via first-class mail or LabCorp courier. Cardiology consultants are available for report confirmation. To view a sample report.
