Paternity/Maternity Testing
LabCorp has been a leader in conducting genetic marker testing for parentage and immigration evaluation since 1981.
With more than two decades of parentage testing experience, LabCorp's expertise includes maternity, sibling, and grandparent testing as well as reconstruction cases, which assist in determining paternity without the presence of the parent in question, either father or mother.
As one of the largest clinical laboratories in the nation, LabCorp employs leading-edge genetic systems in performing paternity testing. The DNA tests used at LabCorp are extremely reliable with an average probability of paternity of 99.9 %.
Identity Testing for Immigration Purposes
LabCorp conducts DNA testing for the establishment of family relation as well as determining genetic relationships for immigration purposes. LabCorp's expertise in identity testing assists Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS), foreign embassies as well as other agencies in establishing or clarifying immigration status of persons. LabCorp recognizes that immigration testing can be difficult when samples are collected outside of the United States. LabCorp, at the request of a local embassy or other agencies, can assist in arranging overseas specimen collection.
Specimen collection
LabCorp uses a variety of methods for specimen collection. The most common method is the noninvasive buccal swab specimen collection. This method is performed by simply swabbing the inner facial cheek. LabCorp's buccal swab collection kit is color-coded (swabs, labels, and envelopes) and easy to use. In some cases, a blood specimen may be required; however, the noninvasive buccal swab is the primary collection method.
Quality
LabCorp is committed to the pursuit of quality and makes every effort to ensure that testing is performed in a quality-centered environment. LabCorp's paternity testing division is accredited by several organizations including the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
Bone Marrow / HLA
LabCorp is one of the oldest commercial laboratories providing histocompatibility (HLA) testing for bone marrow and other transplant related services. LabCorp uses robust molecular methods in performing HLA Class I and HLA Class II testing, ensuring highly accurate results. LabCorp's HLA testing is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
Donor Screening
The results of HLA Class I or HLA Class II typing can be used in bone marrow transplant donor screening. Screening agencies such as the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) rely on LabCorp's experience in HLA testing to provide vital donor matching information. Additionally, LabCorp performs post-transplant bone marrow monitoring, also known as post-transplant engraftment monitoring, which involves checking blood samples for donor and recipient markers after the transplant.
Disease Association
HLA testing may also be ordered by physicians to aid in the diagnosis of disease. For example, research has shown that persons with ankylosing spondylitis and certain forms of arthritis have a higher incidence of HLA allele B27 than persons who do not have these diseases, therefore there is a disease association between these diseases and HLA allele B27.
