Use
Detect specific antibody of the IgM class to Leptospira genus-specific antigen. The presence of a significant or rising level of IgM is considered presumptive evidence of acute Leptospira infection. IgM antibodies appear as early as 3 days after infection and may persist for up to 5 months, or in rare cases, antibody may persist for years.
Limitations
This test is designed as a screening test only, therefore, a small percentage of patients with other acute infections (eg, Q fever) may show a positive result.
Methodology
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
