Cancer Antigen (CA) 125 in the Presence of Human Antimouse Antibodies (HAMA)
| Cancer Antigen (CA) 125 in the Presence of Human Antimouse Antibodies (HAMA) | | | |
| Number | | 144733 |
| CPT | | 86304 |
| Synonyms | | CA 125 in the Presence of HAMA ; HAMA |
| Special Instructions | | A blocking agent is used to remove interference from HAMA (human antimouse antibodies) in the CA 125 assay. For a complete test description, see Cancer Antigen (CA) 125, Serum, below [002303]. |
| Specimen | | Serum |
| Volume | | 1 mL |
| Minimum Volume | | 0.5 mL (Note: This volume does not allow for repeat testing.) |
| Container | | Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube |
| Collection | | If a red-top tube is used, transfer separated serum to a plastic transport tube. |
| Storage Instructions | | Refrigerate |
| Patient Preparation | | It is suggested that the assay not be performed until at least 3 weeks after the completion of primary chemotherapy and at least 2 months following abdominal surgery. |
| Causes for Rejection | | Plasma specimen |
| Reference Interval | | 0-35 units/mL |
| Use | | Eliminate interference from HAMA in the CA 125 assay to help monitor disease progression in nonmucinous epithelial neoplasms of the ovary. This test is performed in the same way as the Cancer Antigen (CA) 125 test except that the interference from HAMA present in the specimen is eliminated by use of a blocking reagent. |
| Limitations | | CA 125 is not specific for tumors of the ovary and cannot distinguish benign from malignant tumors. It is not a screening test. |
| Methodology | | Immunochemiluminometric assay (ICMA) |
