Gel-barrier tubes (5) or gray-top (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) tubes (5) and urine containers (5)
Collection
Separate serum or plasma from cells within 45 minutes of collection. Label each tube with patient's name and time interval. Submit 2 mL serum or sodium fluoride plasma for fasting and each time interval (30 minutes, 1 hour, 11/2 hours, 2 hours, 21/2 hours, etc). Submit 50 mL urine in labeled containers.

Patient should fast 12-14 hours before collection of specimens.
Causes for Rejection
Patient not arriving in a fasting state; stressed patient (surgery, infection, corticosteroids) should not have GTT; specimen not labeled with hourly times
