Center for Esoteric Testing

Center for Esoteric TestingThe Center for Esoteric Testing, located in the Powell Laboratory Complex in Burlington, North Carolina, uses a wide variety of technologies to perform the largest volume of rare analyses in the network. The CET is comprised of eight separate departments, each directed by a doctoral-level scientist.

LabCorp’s esoteric expertise provides physicians the convenience and reliability of a single laboratory system that offers routine testing services and an extensive range of specialized assays. The advanced technological and professional resources of the CET are readily available for physicians when routine testing fails to provide sufficient information.

In the LabCorp network, the CET also functions as a hub for implementing innovative methodologies that represent the latest in diagnostic technology, enabling physicians to deliver the best care for their patients. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), high-pressure liquid chromatography (LC/MS), and inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP/MS) are just some of the technologies that provide better and faster results to our customers.

LabCorp is also proud of the reference testing partnerships provided by the CET. Productive, efficient alliances between LabCorp, hospitals, and other health care entities allow these institutions to strengthen patient care in their local communities.

Center for Molecular Biology and Pathology

Center for Molecular Biology and PathologyThe Center for Molecular Biology and Pathology, located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, leads the industry in the development and application of polymerase chain reaction (PCR), a technology widely used in genomic testing. CMBP’s expertise is focused in diagnostic genetics, oncology, and infectious disease.

As an industry leader in infectious disease testing, CMBP first initiated HIV Resistance testing in 1998 and continues to enhance its testing menu with the recent addition of a proprietary HIV Genotype assay, GenoSure™.

LabCorp also has tremendous experience in oncology assays and associated clinical trials. LabCorp has been performing HPV testing since the late 1980’s and is an active participant in the clinical utility of HPV testing.

Taking early advantage of the discoveries of the human genome, LabCorp has the internal expertise to develop and offer pioneering new tests for gene markers for cancer and genetic disease. Genetic testing entails sampling a person’s DNA and examining it for anomalies that may indicate disease or disorder. In many cases the results of a biochemical and molecular genetic test can be extremely complex. LabCorp’s expertise and commitment to genetic testing extends beyond the test itself to encompass interpretation of individual patient cases and counseling for physicians and their patients.

Additionally, LabCorp’s forensic identity testing services uses PCR technology and mitochondrial DNA sequencing in analyzing forensic cases.

Center for Occupational Testing

Center for Occupational TestingLabCorp's Center for Occupational Testing, headquartered in Research Triangle Park, NC is a leading provider of urine, hair, oral fluid and point-of-collection drugs of abuse testing services. Through its strategically located Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) certified laboratories and an extensive network of specimen collection facilities, LabCorp provides easy access to services nationwide. In addition to drug-free workplace testing, LabCorp’s Corporate Solutions services includes specialized medical professional and pain management drug test panels as well as employee wellness testing.

US LABS

US LABS is an esoteric anatomic pathology laboratory providing critical cancer screening, diagnosis, prognosis and genetic analysis. Cancer screening is performed through biopsy analysis (histology) and cytology. Advanced laboratory techniques, primarily involving the application and analysis of tissue using immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and molecular genetics technologies, are used to aid in cancer diagnosis. Determination of patient prognosis and potential response to therapy regimes is based on quantification of protein and gene expression. US LABS utilizes unique technologies and is at the forefront of application of emerging genetics based technologies for analysis of cancer pathways and therapies.
